1. “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” — Aristotle

We tend to think that we know what is best for our family, friends, partners, and others. The truth is we do not, even if our thinking comes from a place of good intentions. It is easy to see other people’s flaws, but what about our own? How well do you know yourself? Are you willing to acknowledge your own limitations and work on them to become a better version of yourself? Are you willing to admit your mistakes and apologize for them? Take time to work on self-improvement because it is essential for a better quality of life. You will be able to face the challenges in life on a more solid footing — just like a ship staying afloat in a storm at sea.

2. “Faith is taking the first step even when you cannot see the whole staircase.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

Believe in your mental and physical capabilities. Be patient and trust the process of change, just like a seed needs time to germinate and blossom into a flower. Keeping your word by following through with it will build character and inner strength. Whenever you think about quitting, ask yourself why did you start in the first place?

3. “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi also said, “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” With an unbending faith, you will be able to tap into the power of the Universe to fuel you, whether you muster inner strength or find the right support from others. Only when you have pushed yourself beyond the limitations imposed by your mind will you recognize the true power that is within you.

4. “What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.” — Thaddeus Golas

Life is full of unexpected, and sometimes unfortunate, events. Some things are beyond your control. Yet, you do have the “response-ability” for your actions. It is human to have emotions and feelings, but do not let your emotions cloud your judgment and dictate all of your responses. Acting upon feelings will not always produce the best outcome. Be mindful of the influence from others’ opinions, societal expectations, and unexamined beliefs.

5. “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” — Mahatma Gandhi

Ever get a nagging headache? What is going through your head at that moment (pun intended)? Probably wishing for the headache to be gone. An ailment is the way your body brings an issue to your attention. Learn to observe the signs that your body is trying telling you, as they may be forewarnings for other problems to come. If you neglect your mental and physical well-being, you will less likely make the best out of life. Devote time each day to nourish and care for the body, whether you choose to exercise, stretch, meditate, eat a healthy meal, disconnect from electronics, relax with music, etc.
